About our dog obedience classes

These may include brushing up on basic obedience skills like sit, down, stay with distractions and distance, manners when meeting and greeting new people and other dogs, loose lead walking, focus building exercises, recall, emergency stop, impulse control, cooperative care, confidence building, fun games, preparing for a visit to the vets, learning to settle & much more. IMDT partnership grades and certificates can also be achieved, if owners would like something to work towards.

TRAIN YOUR DOG WITH K9 LOST IN TRANSLATION

Included in our dog obedience classes

Obedience classes are kept small so everyone gets plenty of individual support, almost like a one to one session, but with the added fun of a group. There are usually only 4-5 dogs in each group. Dogs of all ages are welcome from adolescents to older companions. Classes are tailored to suit each dog's needs. Every dog & owner can learn at their own pace, helping build confidence in a relaxed, friendly & supportive environment. Training sessions sometimes take place in the New Forest, so owners get the opportunity to practise what they have learnt in more challenging environments.

2 weekly spotlight classes are also offered on Monday evenings for owners who would like further support with their dogs' recall or loose lead walking. Both classes work on focus building exercises & practical techniques to help build a reliable recall or to help teach your dog how to walk nicely on a loose lead.

"Jo is an incredible dog trainer. Very knowledgeable and patient, highly recommend."

"Take one young border terrier with a mind of his own. One owner frightened to let him off the lead because he won't come back. Add K9 Lost in Translation and you have a happy dog and a very happy owner. Jo's classes taught me how to understand Pickle our border, how to pick up on his body language and how to be clear and concise about the commands I give. It really is about training the owners. We now have the perfect dog who is reliable in all situations. This makes walking him on the Forest an absolute joy. So thanks to Jo for helping me create the perfect doggy friend. If you have a dog you need K9 Lost in Translation!"

"Rosie and I love our weekly training. It suits everyone from those ambitious to achieve great things, those wanting help with specific issues and those like me who find it hard to make time to have quality time (not just walks) with their slightly bonkers Spaniel. We love working together and learning new things at class. It's great to be able to practice in the hall as well as the super exciting sniffy garden. We even do the occasional group training out on the forest which is really good too."

"I recently attended a dog training class with my Staffy, Stanley, and I honestly couldn't be more impressed! By the end of the course, Stanley was responding to the commands more consistently, walking better on the lead, and generally more focused (which is saying something for a bouncy pup like him!).

Highly recommend Jo and her classes to any dog owner who wants to build a stronger bond with their pet while learning valuable skills in a fun, supportive environment. We're already looking forward to the next level of training!"

Frequently Asked Questions

These classes are for dogs from 6 months of age onwards. They are a follow on from our Puppy Training Course. If you haven't done any prior training with your dog, a 1-2-1 may be beneficial for Jo to teach you the basics before joining the course.

I am a positive reward dog trainer. Reward based training is a positive reinforcement method that encourages desired behaviours by offering rewards, like treats, praise or toys, when the dog performs a behaviour correctly. This method builds trust between the owner and the dog while making learning enjoyable for both.

The 6-week course costs £90.
